If you have not yet entered the inaugural Oliver and Adelaide Tambo Liberation Walk taking place on the 1st of October you have until September 20 to do so.
South Africans from all walks of life have an opportunity to be part of history by taking part in the first-ever Oliver and Adelaide Tambo Liberation Walk.
Newly established Oliver and Adelaide Tambo Foundation has partnered with the City of Ekurhuleni and the O.R Tambo International Airport to bring the maiden annual walk in the name of the Tambos.
The walk forms part of the City of Ekurhuleni’s annual October month celebrations of the life and legacy of struggle stalwarts Oliver and Adelaide.
Registration for the walk is currently open and entries close on 20 September 2011.
This year’s 5km and 17km liberation walk will trace these footsteps from Ekurhuleni, where the Tambos lived before they were banished into exile for more than 30 years and where they remain buried next to each other in Wattville. In the next few years, these footsteps will be traced back from Mbizana in the Eastern Cape where he was born in 1917 to places like London.
The walk has also been supported by the following personalities, Uyanda Mbuli, Carol Manana, Kass Nadioo and Khosi Zwane-Siguqa who are the official brand ambassadors.
The proceeds of the walk will go to people living with disabilities through a number of charities namely, the Adelaide Tambo Development Centre in Wattville, Benoni, the Adelaide Tambo School for the Disabled in Soweto, and the Brave Foundation.
The walk will also include a 5km school challenge involving learners from disadvantaged schools around Ekurhuleni. The winning school stands to take home a cash prize as a donation from the foundation.
The entry fee for the walk will be R70 for the 5km and R80 for the 17km. Entry forms can be found at selected sport stores, malls and at the information desk at O.R. Tambo International Airport or by logging onto the website, www.tamboliberationwalk.co.za.
