Airports Company South Africa, Cape Town International Airport (ACSA CTIA) took receipt of just over 1700 parking bays on the 1st and 2nd floor of the new parkade today.
At a cost R394 million, Parkade 1, located near the International Arrivals terminal, will be completed in March 2010. It will provide the airport with an additional 4000 parking bays once done. In the meantime the additional 1700 bays will bring with it some welcome relief. “In January a further 2 more floors will come on stream further enhancing the parking capacity”, says ACSA CTIA Communications Manager, Deidre Hendricks
Another milestone for the airport is the opening of the pedestrian underpass. The underpass forms part of the R120 million road network upgrade project which has a completion date of March 2010. The underpass will be utilised by passengers who park in the northern shade parking as well as the international car rental users and will connect them to and from the front door of the central terminal building.
ACSA CTIA urges its airport users to arrive early at the airport, especially during holiday season. With the road network upgrade in progress, the extra time will allow passengers to easily orientate themselves with the routes accessing the airport and the new terminal as well as check-in on time for their flights.
7 November 2009 the airport officially opened the doors of its new 5 storey central terminal building.
