At 09h55 this morning a Piper Chieftain aircraft, departing from O.R. Tambo International Airport en route to Wonderboom Airport, experienced engine problems on departure. The pilot elected to abort the take-off and land back on the departure runway.
The aircraft over-ran the end of the runway and came to a halt within the airport precinct.
Airports Company South Africa fire and rescue services were at the scene within 90 seconds. The pilot was the only person on board and was not injured.
