Airports Company South Africa, Cape Town International Airport (ACSA CTIA) continues to improve its service to its airport users. The airport is currently installing a Licence Plate Recognition (LPR) system that will register every single car that enters the airport parking areas and ensure that it is registered on the system.  This will make it convenient for users who have lost their tickets as well addressing the problem of unreadable tickets. Passengers and airport users play a vital role at the airport that is why the airport is constantly finding ways to ensure that they have a great experience at Cape Town International Airport.

The Licence Plate Recognition System (LPR) is there to ensure airport users and passengers no longer have to worry when they cannot find their ticket. Another challenge which has been identified is that of unreadable tickets. This is usually due to the magnetic strip which has been deactivated when tickets are in contact with a cell phone magnet.

“When a user enters any of our parking areas, the system’s camera will take an image of the car registration plate.  As soon as the airport user pulls out the ticket from the ticket machine at the boom gate, the vehicle is registered on the airport system as well as the time of entry,” said Deborah Francis, acting Communications Manager at Cape Town International Airport. If a user has misplaced a parking ticket, the only information which they will have to provide will be their registration plate and a consultant will be able advice on how much they need to pay.

At each parking payment machine clusters, there will be one machine which will assist with replacing unreadable tickets. Users will not have to walk all the way to the parking office to report an unreadable ticket anymore. The airport is constantly improving its service to users and this is another way of making your airport experience easier.
