Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) plays a pivotal role in the growth and development of its community, not only financially but also socio-economically. Our flagship airport seeks to improve the quality of life of all our communities by positively impacting on their lives. As part of our Corporate Social Investments, we are giving back to the community this winter.
We will be donating over 700 pairs of school shoes to children in need at various schools in Ekurhuleni from 6 June 2011. The campaign will kick off on 30 May 2011 at the Arebaokeng Day Care Centre in Thembisa Township. ACSA staff members will donate clothes and feed over 50 underprivileged and abused children the school caters for.
“Tuesday 31 May 2011 will be a similar execution at the Sisizakana Creche in Katlehong”, said Unathi Batyashe-Fillis, Communication and Brand Manager for O.R. Tambo International Airport.
“The first shoe rollout will take place at a Primary School in Thembisa on 6 June 2011. The schools were identified primarily by ACSA staff members who reside in the chosen communities.”
“We will also, together with our Fire and Rescue Department, be constructing a soccer field at one of the informal settlements near the airport. We realise that the South African Police Service is always seeking meaningful ways of combating crime in the area and following an assessment of the informal settlement, we’ve identified a lack of recreational activities as one of the contributing factors,” added Batyashe-Fillis.
A fire awareness campaign will also form part of the Winter Warmers Campaign where O.R. Tambo International Airport’s Fire and Rescue Department will hand out pamphlets informing communities of the dangers of fires during the cold days.
Batyashe-Fillis says the campaign will run throughout the winter months and will coincide with both World Environmental Day and the Nelson Mandela 67 minute campaigns. ACSA staff members will be playing an integral part during these International Campaigns by giving their time to support these worthy causes.
