Media Statement 15 July 2008
Following a rigorous and competitive international tender process relating to the award of a third ground handling licence to an operator, Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) today (Tuesday, 15 July 2008) announced that it had awarded the licence to Swissport South Africa. Swissport SA now joins BidAir Services and Menzies Aviation in the provision of ground handling services to airlines at ACSA’s network of airports countrywide. This licence will become effective from 1 September 2008 and is valid for a period of five years with an option to renew.
“We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Swissport on winning the tender. The award of the licence will enable increased competition in the market, thus leading to continuous improvement in services rendered to the airlines,” says ACSA’s Group Executive of Operations Bongani Maseko.
Swissport will also have to comply with the same licence conditions applicable to Menzies Aviation and BidAir Services when they were appointed earlier this year.
