CAPE TOWN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT UPGRADES ITS BORDER CONTROL FACILITIES
Thursday, May 15, 2014 | 00:00

Airports Company South Africa, Cape Town International Airport is once again improving its service to passengers to ensure that they have a great experience at the airport. The Department of Home Affairs’ passport control area has been relocated and upgraded at a cost of R4.7 million. The upgrade aims to improve the queuing system for passengers as well as ensuring there are better facilities for personnel and those making use of the area.

The passport control area has now been moved to its permanent space closer to the International Departures Duty Free area. “Now with the new and improved facility, agent immigration officers are able to see airport users clearly which will assist them with the profiling of passengers,” said Deidre Davids, Communications Manager at Cape Town International Airport.

The emigration area comprises of 14 counters for personnel as well as for the associated Department of Home Affairs role players. An automated queuing system has been installed to help manage queues and turn-style gates have been installed to ensure personnel and passengers entering the area are processed separately. All employees will now have to swipe their cards which will also assist in preventing tail gating.

The emigration office opens at 04h00 and closes after the last flight (this is inclusive of delayed flights) daily. “Having been awarded the ACI Best Airport by region in Africa, we strive to provide an excellent service to our airport users and passengers alike and this is another way of making sure that there is a smooth transition through our airport,” added Davids.
