Johannesburg, 3 April 2014 - In another first, O.R. Tambo International Airport, will host a fashion show during the popular annual SA Fashion Week on Saturday, 5 April 2014, in partnership with acclaimed fashion designer, Craig Jacobs of Fundudzi and the City of Ekurhuleni.
Titled Freedom20, the collection will be showcased at the recently launched Oliver Reginald Tambo Memorial Exhibition at the airport and will unveil a fashion revolution reflective of South Africa’s 20 years of democracy.
“O.R. Tambo International Airport is honoured to be associated with an event of this calibre. Our Oliver Reginald Tambo Memorial Exhibition is the perfect venue, as it honours Oliver Tambo, one of the stalwarts whose sacrifices led to South Africa being able to celebrate these 20 years of freedom”, said Unathi Batyashe-Fillis, spokesperson for O.R. Tambo International Airport.
“We drew inspiration from movement, change and the iconic symbols reflecting post-apartheid South Africa, of which O.R. Tambo International Airport has been a huge part of”, Jacobs said about his collection.
“This is an ideal opportunity to position O.R. Tambo International Airport in its capacity as more than just an airport, as we work towards creating Africa’s first Aerotropolis, in collaboration with the City of Ekurhuleni”, Batyashe-Fillis added.
O.R. International Airport is proud to join the country in celebrating 20 years of democracy as it also reflects on Airports Company South Africa’s recent celebrations of the company’s 20 years of business excellence in 2013.
